Art Therapy
Kelsey Morgan
I’m an Art Therapist and Somatic Practitioner who specializes in trauma recovery-- helping others make peace with their past while also cultivating presence and peace for the here and now.
When the pain of the past or present is extremely heavy, often times you may not know how to use words to express what is going on inside. This is why art and movement are incredibly useful modalities to help unburden what you have been carrying. You do not need to be “good” at art or be a movement enthusiast to work with me. You most definitely do NOT have to know what you’re doing. I will guide you each step of the way-- and yes, there’s always plenty of room for just talking!
By working with me, what most people discover is how creative they truly are. They begin to feel and release pain that has been suppressed for years. They learn how to connect to themselves and be present. They also start to communicate more effectively, and expand their capacity for self-expression and regulation. This gets to be attainable because art therapy and movement bridges the gap between the mind and body. When talk therapy alone often keeps people stuck in looping stories of the mind, negative self-perceptions, or band-aid coping remedies. These creative modalities help you break free from that cycle of suffering.
While I am here to guide you through facing your trauma and other hardships of life, I believe it’s equally important to remember your joy! Engaging in creative therapy modalities helps tap you back into a sense of play that is often forgotten with age. And when life gets too serious, or you dive incredibly deep into healing without balancing it out with joy, is where many people can feel like they have lost themselves. Balancing the depth with joy is key, and both take an immense amount of courage to face. I’m proud of you for taking this step and I would be honored to guide you during this phase of your healing journey!

A bit More about me:
I earned my MA in Art Therapy with an emphasis in Counseling from Saint-Mary-of-the-Woods College. I am a Registered Art Therapist (ATR) through the Art Therapy Credentials Board and American Art Therapy Association. I am certified in Somatic Activated Healing™ which is a radical wellness practice that combines the healing modalities of meditation, mantra, movement, and breath. I am also passionate about dream documentation! I’ve been in cycles of documenting my dreams since 2018 (which is when I had my first spiritual awakening) and creating art with them to gain a deeper relationship with the unconscious mind.
My approach is integrative and client-centered. Through that approach, as you may have already been able to tell, I combine western psychology, eastern practices, and holistic modalities to support sustainable healing rooted in self-love. Whether you feel drawn to art, movement, dreamwork, or simply needing space to talk, we’ll co-create a healing process that meets you exactly where you are. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to schedule yourself a free consultation call!

Other FAQ’s
-
- You do not have to have any experience with art or movement or even identify yourself as a creative person in order to work with me! The way I work with art and movement is about expression vs skill. The purpose is to learn how to connect to your body, emotions, unconscious mind, shadows, work through hardship, and cultivate presence. I will guide you through the process and before you know it, it will feel like a natural form of self-care practice and expression.
- If you are a virtual client and are not used to working with art, I will also provide you with a list of art supplies so you can easily pick the materials you feel called to and know what to purchase!

Of course! Talking is still important and a necessary part of healing. Also, therapeutic sessions are based off of your needs. If there are sessions where we just talk or if that needs to be the main focus for a period of time that is okay.

Art Therapy is a mental health profession where art therapists are master level clinicians trained in fine arts, psychological theory, counseling, metaphor, and symbolism. Through creative processes like drawing or painting this helps you express your emotions, explore your psyche, and process experiences in gentle non verbal ways.
Art effortlessly taps into the unconscious mind bringing forth information to conscious awareness. Making the unknown, known. Granting you the ability to work through and transmute what has been suppressed in the shadows of your psyche. AND you get to explore and have fun in learning how to creatively express yourself.
Please note that if you are ever looking for an Art Therapist to make sure they have the credentials ATR-P, ATR, or ATR-BC behind their name. Many people in the mental health and spiritual healing space say that they use art therapy or are an art therapist but have not been specifically trained in this specialized field of psychology.

This is a practice that focuses on body-based movement and increasing sensational awareness for healing. Somatic work will help you learn how to connect to the body, feel your emotions, regulate the nervous system, increase your capacity to be with discomfort, and teach you how to let go of pain from the past.
If you feel like you are prone to suppressing your emotions, avoiding your pain, or feeling like a prisoner to your internal world and would like to change that, this is for you!
On the flip side, somatic work will also increase your capacity to feel and receive joy, love, peace, pleasure, and all the other pleasantries of life! As you face the difficulties, you allow the blessings of life to unfold more fully.

- You can still participate an reap the benefits of somatic movement regardless of your physical capabilities! This is for all bodies. I will be able to make appropriate modifications for your physical needs. There are many variations for movements, and remember, you also have full authority over your body. If something feels off and you need to move differently, listen to the body. If you still have questions about this please do not hesitate to reach out and ask, but also please consult with your medical provider before engaging in any somatic movement.
